Model 829 Reclining Rocking Chair (chosen by Gio Ponti) by Arnestad Bruk for Cassina, 1960
Originally designed in Norway by an unknown designer for Arnestad Bruk around 1960, the Model 829 is a strikingly sculptural lounge chair that balances comfort with architectural presence. The original version was made in teak, but it was later licensed by the renowned Italian manufacturer Cassina, who produced a light beechwood edition exclusively for Gio Ponti’s iconic Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento.
This example is one of those rare Cassina-manufactured chairs—constructed in beech with seven reclining positions and rocking capability. It has been restored with new foam and forest green boucle upholstery, which beautifully complements the wood’s original patina—a subtle nod to its storied design legacy.
A true collector's piece, showcasing cross-European mid-century collaboration, timeless craftsmanship, and Ponti’s eye for modern design.
We have two available, the other is awaiting upholstery.
